Red-Blue Connector


Add your name to this e-petition to tell MassDOT and the MBTA to build the "Red to Blue Connector" as a subway extension and not as a pedestrian walkway. Additionally, please show up to the MassDOT & MBTA Board Meeting on Monday, February 4 at noon to comment in person even if you have already signed the petition!

We, the undersigned, wish to voice our displeasure at the treatment of the "Red to Blue Connector" or the extension of the Blue Line to Charles/MGH in the draft Focus 2040 visioning plan. This has been a missing link in the MBTA's subway for far too long. It will most importantly serve the mobility needs of the environmental justice communities of East Boston, Winthrop, and Revere along the Blue Line, as well as communities along the Red Line from Cambridge & Somerville to Boston, Quincy & Braintree. The Blue Line extension would also be a game changer for mobility in the region, providing a strong new link to Logan Airport (now handling 38 million passengers annually) and an important new link to Mass General Hospital. A pedestrian connection means little to a person with limited mobility, parents with young children, or a weary traveler. The Commonwealth shirked its responsibility once before, we should not miss this opportunity to right that wrong and build the Red to Blue Connector as intended. We hope that you will replace the reference to a pedestrian walkway with a commitment to extend the Blue Line to Charles/MGH. Thank you for your time & consideration.

    Heads up everyone. Apparently, an irrelevant walkway between Downtown Crossing and State has been prioritized over the Red-Blue Connector. As it is already difficult and stressful to take transit from Cambridge to East Boston and Revere, it is well past time to build this:

    First it’s the South Station Expansion over the North-South Rail link and now this. Whatever irrelevant infrastructure project will the state pay for next instead of something we really needed years go?

    I encourage MassDOT to conduct an open and transparent review of all the options available. I further encourage MassDOT to look outside in-house planning capabilities and involve area organizations such as TransitMatters (I am not an affiliate; I have no connection to TransitMatters), as well as corporate and government entities.

    I further urge a particular review with respect to connection beyond Charles/MGH and potentially to Kendall Square, to link northern areas and Logan Airport with the rising innovation cluster of Kendall Square, once labelled the most innovative square mile on the planet.

    Would also help Amtrack so passengers going north to south or opposite way would not have to take T to station for other connection When planing my nieces trip back looking at all transfers chose Greyhound instead of Amtrack

    Red-Blue Connector is a missing link that’s sorely needed. I lived outside of Davis Sq and worked in Maverick Sq for four months and the lack of a direct connection added at least 15 min to my commute each way. Charles/MGH was purposefully built to accommodate a future blue line connection underneath. This is crucial to accommodating future job/housing growth in East Boston, Revere, Cambridge and beyond.
